Universal Steel engineered and supplied the building system for the Duluth Banquet Hall, a 14,000 sq ft event venue in Duluth, Georgia. Rather than a single shell, the venue was created by tying eight separate steel buildings into one connected structure, giving a large banquet floor and a dedicated stage area, all rising to 40 feet. The challenge
The brief was to deliver one banquet hall experience, not eight separate buildings. Eight steel structures had to be tied into each other so the finished venue worked as a single connected space, with a large banquet floor for events and a dedicated area for a stage, all rising to 40 feet. Tying that many buildings into one coherent structure is what put this project at the top of Universal Steel’s complexity scale.
The solution
Universal Steel resolved the venue as eight connected buildings engineered to work as one, designed in-house to Georgia’s code and load requirements, then fabricated and shipped from the closest plant. The roof was finished with the supplied insulation package: an R30 two-layer liner system across the roof, with no wall insulation, giving the roof its thermal performance and a finished interior liner face beneath the steel. Steel framing suits the large, open floor a banquet hall calls for.
The result
The finished result is a single 14,000 sq ft banquet hall, created from eight steel buildings tied into one connected venue with a large banquet floor and a stage area at 40 feet. Eight buildings resolved into one space, at the top of Universal Steel’s complexity scale.
