Universal Steel supplied the building system for The Rustic Event Center, an event venue in Downtown Houston, Texas, with restaurants and a stage for live music. The standout was the site: the venue was built right beneath the downtown mixmaster, the stack of interchanges at the heart of the city, on a project the city council was closely involved in.

The challenge
A downtown site like this comes with its own demands. The venue had to work as a complete event facility, space for restaurants and a stage for live music under one roof, on a prominent, constrained site beneath a major highway interchange, and on a project where the city was closely involved throughout. It needed a building that could deliver an open, flexible event space in that setting.
The solution
Universal Steel engineered and supplied the building system, designed in-house to Texas code and load requirements, then fabricated and shipped from the closest plant. Steel construction suits an event venue: it gives the clear, open, column-light interior that restaurants, crowds and a live-music stage need, in a single adaptable space.
